Welcome to Family Psychology of East Cobb!

We hope you take this opportunity to look around and learn about who we are.

At Family Psychology of East Cobb, we understand you may feel hesitant to ask for help. You may struggle with the many “should” messages you’ve heard about your life, your ability to cope, your relationships, and your family. We’ve heard those “shoulds”. Although they may have become comfortable, they are not helpful. We welcome the opportunity to work with you to create a more balanced perspective.

Learning how to set appropriate goals is only the start. We strive to help you learn from disappointments, reshape and accomplish your goals, and then to recognize and celebrate your successes.

Relationships may be challenging. Families may be difficult. Life can be demanding. We will listen to you without judgment or criticism.

Successful psychotherapy requires a strong and trusting relationship between the psychotherapist and you from the start.  We will work with you to address your concerns through empathy, understanding, encouragement, and support. Happiness and confidence may not be the goal, but they are often the outcome.

The mission of Family Psychology of East Cobb is to provide high-quality, effective, collaborative psychotherapy, assessment, and forensic services to families and individuals by providing new perspectives, challenging old ones, and encouraging healthy ones.

You are an individual and we will treat you as such.  We return calls and we respond to email communication.  If we are not the best fit, we will try to help you find it. We provide in-person and virtual services.

  • Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety Disorders involve persistent anxious thoughts, worry, dread, and fear of impending danger that are difficult to control. Physical symptoms commonly associated with anxiety include racing heart, panic, shortness of breath, GI symptoms, and avoidance of situations.

Depression is a mood disorder that causes persistent sadness and hopelessness. It typically interferes with multiple areas of daily life. Symptoms can include withdrawal from activities or relationships, difficulty concentrating, lack of motivation, irritability, and feelings of worthlessness or guilt. Anxiety and Depression are highly treatable.

  • Family Counseling

In family therapy sessions, the focus is typically on the improvement of relationships and communication. The approach is a collaborative one that helps each family member identify how actions may affect other family members and the behavior of the family unit as a whole. Family members explore their roles and patterns of behavior, and learn strategies for creating and restoring healthy, productive patterns of relating. This type of therapy can help individual members cope with a family member’s mental health diagnosis or sudden or stressful life changes, and to learn methods for resolving conflicts to improve communication. Dr. Levy and Dr. Hopkins-Naylor work with any combination of family members.

  • Psychoeducation Evaluations

Dr. Hopkins Naylor conducts comprehensive evaluations. This service is primarily focused on identifying learning, attention, and processing issues that may impact a child in the academic or home environment. Evaluations are often useful when there is a suspicion of giftedness, ADHD, developmental delay, anxiety/mood disruption, executive function/memory impairment, or a social skills deficit.

  • Divorce

Dr. Levy provides numerous services related to divorce, including parent coaching, family therapy, court-ordered reunification/ reconciliation therapy, court-ordered parent coordination, and coparenting counseling.

  • Forensic Services

Dr. Levy provides forensic evaluations when child abuse is suspected, as well as expert consultation and testimony for Guardians Ad Litem and attorneys in cases involving high conflict divorce, civil litigation, and military courts-martial related to child abuse. She has over twenty years of experience testifying about subjects such as forensic interviewing, effects of sexual abuse, parental alienation, and parenting plan evaluations in numerous jurisdictions.

  • Child Sexual Abuse & Trauma

Both Dr. Levy and Dr. Hopkins-Naylor have years of experience providing therapeutic services to children, adults, and families who have been impacted by child abuse and trauma. They are both trained in TF-CBT and have experience working with multi-disciplinary team members to help support victims of abuse and trauma and to provide guidance toward healing and thriving.
